Corpus Christi offers a diverse range of leadership opportunities for all students that includes joining leadership teams and participating in leadership programs.

School Captains, Sports House Captains, Environmental Leader, Mini Vinnies Leader and Library Leader are elected from the Year 5 class at the end of each year, with these leaders making up the School Council who begin their duties the following year.

The School Council meet with the Assistant Principal every two weeks at lunch time.

Our student leaders and school captains are our role models. As role models, our student leaders are to act with:

  • Care, courtesy and reliability
  • be capable of doing the job
  • positive and enthusiastic
  • show empathy towards others and act as good friends would
  • use manners and basic good grace when dealing with other students and adults
  • treat others fairly, honesty and keep their dignity intact
  • self-discipline
  • show self-control of feelings and actions.

House Captains are sports leaders who assist to organise their team, sports equipment and build positive team spirit, attitudes and efforts. We have two house captains for each house.  The house teams include yellow (Dominic), blue (Mackillop) and green (Patrick).

ENVIRONMENTAL LEADER

The environmental leader works with a group of other students under the guidance of our Sustainable Schools Co-ordinator. The Environmental Leader will be involved in the following tasks/projects:

  • Propagating plants from around the school
  • Developing the garden areas in our school grounds
  • Placing environmental tips in the school newsletter
  • Participating in the Ecological Footprint Survey to obtain benchmark data for measuring environmental practices in the community
  • Participating in propagating lessons with staff from the Awabakal Outdoor Environmental Education
  • Creating a compost system for our garden beds and recycling
  • Being environmental ‘experts’ and assisting class teachers in recycling and keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum
  • Being responsible for classroom recycling program.

MINI VINNIES LEADER

The Mini Vinnies Leader works with a group of students from Year 3 to Year 6. Mini Vinnies empowers primary school students to become advocates within their school and local community by putting their values into action. They meet regularly with one of the teachers to learn about social justice issues, develop leadership skills and engage with the wider St Vincent de Paul Society. The Mini Vinnies Leader will be involved in the following tasks/projects:

  • Winter Warmer Appeal
  • Project Compassion
  • For the Farmers fundraising
  • Nursing home visits
  • Catholic Missions

LIBRARY LEADER

The Library Leader works with a group of students to set responsibilities in the library.

Attitude and skills required:

  • Being prepared to give some time to help in the library
  • Willing to take on library monitor responsibilities
  • Being polite and helpful
  • Being a team worker
  • Being organised
  • Show an interest in promoting the library
  • Show attention to details
  • Participate in library activities such as library competition and displays.

EXPECTATIONS OF A LIBRARY MONITOR:

  • To be responsible for helping to keep the library a safe, welcoming place where people can come to work, read a book, play a game and be with friends
  • To demonstrate excellent Library Monitor behaviours – modelling library rules
  • To listen to directions from library staff
  • To do library jobs to your best ability
  • To be polite and prompt with assistance
  • To ask library staff for help if unsure what to do.

LIBRARY MONITOR JOBS:

  • Assist students using games – handing out, packing up and tidying games shelves at the end of break
  • Hand out colouring-in paper and assisting with colouring-in pack up at the end of break
  • Help to keep the library space well presented - tidy book shelves, push in chairs, put lost hats in lost property box etc.
  • Shelve books in correct locations
  • Assist with library displays including library competitions and other activities.
