Corpus Christi Primary School, as we know it today, was opened in 1935. Catholic Education has served our Waratah community dating back to 1875 with the arrival of the Dominican Sisters in Waratah.

Catholic education has been embedded in Waratah thanks to the dedicated efforts and leadership of the Dominican Sisters, who arrived in Waratah more than 130 years ago. Their initial mission was to establish a school for the hearing impaired, followed by a primary school for local children. In the early 1900s, the Sisters set up the first primary school in a house on Alfred Street that they owned, also providing the teaching staff. Under the guidance of the Dominican Sisters, the school thrived until 1987.

In those early days, the students used an adjacent paddock, which also housed a few cows, as their playground. These modest facilities served the community well for many years, initially known as Rosary School and later as St Joseph's. However, as time went on, these accommodations could no longer meet the growing needs of the area.

 In 1933 the Parish began to plan and construct a new purpose-built school to become the ground floor of the present school. The enduring Dominican values of prayer, learning, service, and community remain integral to our school's culture today. We are indebted to the commitment and excellent educational standards set by the Dominican Sisters. We extend our gratitude to our parishioners, clergy, and community members for their unwavering dedication and compassionate service to Corpus Christi community. Their contributions make us proud, and we strive to uphold our Dominican values or prayer, learning, service and community.

Corpus Christi Primary School

1954: The second storey was completed and opened by Bishop Gleeson.

2002: A new building was completed, including an administration block, an additional classroom, a new staffroom, offices and a canteen. 

Other projects between 2002 and 2020:

• A new library was built into the undercroft area

• All classrooms were refurbished.

• Extension of the lower floor verandah, allowing the infants' classrooms to open onto the main playground

• The area under the hall was redeveloped to allow rooms to be used for multiple purposes.
• The Diocese acquired and developed two adjoining blocks of land and developed into an expansive grassed play area. 
• The Dominic Courtyard, an interactive outdoor learning area for active learning and imaginative play 

• The fitness playground allowing the students to develop and enhance their natural strength and agility.
• Redevelopment and refurbishment of existing school toilets.

2024:  

• Refurbishment of all classrooms K-6.
