COVID Protocols
Last week following advice from the Director of Schools we sent home a set of 5 RAT tests to each child. If you have not yet received yours, please contact your class teacher or the school office. Students and staff can attend school if they are a household contact with students having the option to wear a mask.
We will continue to inform the community if there has been a positive case in the school. While we have had a stable start to the term, we are aware there are many strains of the flu active as well as COVID and I appreciate that parents continue to keep their children home if they are unwell. As we continue through the final weeks of winter, take care.
Feast of St Dominic
Our Dominican History in Waratah stretches back 130 years ago when the Dominicans first arrived in Waratah 130 years ago. They set up a school for the hearing impaired but it was not long before a smaller mainstream school was also set up. The school was first established in a house in Alfred Street owned by the Sisters, who also provided the staff. Our Corpus Christi Building was completed in 1935 and our school has had a permanent home here ever since.
We will celebrate the Feast of St Dominic
Thursday 4 August
Sport Uniform
10am – Primary Mass
We will celebrate with games and activities throughout the day. Our K-2 students will take time throughout the morning to reflect through prayer and learning about St Dominic.

Norths Regional Athletics Carnival – we had 44 students qualify to represent our school at the Regional Carnival. Congratulations to three out of four of our relay teams for making it through to the Diocesan Carnival. As a result we have 17 students qualify to represent the North Region at the Diocesan Carnival.
Polding Trials
Congratulations to Ava in Year 6. Ava has qualified for the Polding Softball Team. Ava is the only student in the Diocese who has qualified at DIocesan selection level – Well Done Ava!
Religious Education and Spirituality
Hello all,
Sacramental Program 2022
The students participating in the Sacramental program have completed their Confirmation and are now looking forward to completing their First Holy Communion. It is a Sunday Mass so we would like to invite all from the Corpus Christi family to come along and support our candidates.
Sacrament of Holy Communion: Sunday 11th September at Corpus Christi Parish at 5.30pm.
Term 3 Class Mass: We have aligned our class mass for Term 3 with The Feast Day of St Dominic. Stage 3 are hosting the mass and both Stage 2 and 3 will be attending. This will be on Thursday 4th August at 10am at Corpus Christi Parish. Parents and families are invited to attend.
St Dominic Feast Day: We are celebrating St Dominic Feast on Thursday August 4th. Stage 2 and 3 will attend a Mass to celebrate St Dominic while Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 will celebrate in their classrooms. As a part of this day, students will participate in a mini–Commonwealth Games CCW Style session. We ask that on this day students wear their sports uniform.
St Mary of the Cross Liturgy: Monday 8th August at 8.50am. Parents are welcome to attend.
School Parish Mass: This term our school parish mass will be held on Sunday 21st August at 5.30pm. It will be prepared by Stage 1 students. Stage 1 students and their families are invited to attend along with any other members of our Corpus Christi community.
Many Blessings

Parents as Partners in our Learning
Early in Term 2 we trialled having Parent/Teacher /Student Conversations about Learning.
The key changes in this process are:
- Holding collaborative meetings with Parent-Student-Teacher (Year 2-6)
- Holding meetings prior to reports being published
- Identifying areas of strength and development
- Setting goals with parents and students as a result of the collaborative process.
We plan to follow up with families towards the end of Term 3 with optional Parent/Teacher /Student Conversations about Learning. We will publish bookings via Compass later in the term.
We shared a feedback form for the Academic Report. I thank those that have given their time and honest feedback to enhance this process. Feedback on the report itself will be shared with the Diocesan Reporting Committee this week to then be presented to the Diocesan P&F Federation.
In terms of Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings some of the feedback so far has included:
- Parents valuing the dialouge between parent-student and teacher
- Some parents would like more time with the teacher without their child present
- Some parents in Kindergarten and Year 1 would like their child to be involved in the process
As we continue to refine the process, we are looking for ways to improve so that we continue to collaborate as partners in your child’s learning. Before our follow up meetings, I encourage any parent that has a question or concern to reach out to the classroom teacher – the easiest and most direct first step is to make connection via email or message at the school office. From there teachers can make a suitable time to speak on the phone, online or meet in person.
