Hi Everyone,
Faith in Focus - Feast of the Assumption - August 15
This week, we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, the Mother of God. This special occasion commemorates the moment Mary was taken up into heaven, body and soul, to be with God.
Reflecting on Mary’s life with children, we remember her deep faith and steadfast trust in God and that she said 'yes' to God's call.
We use this celebration to encourage children to look to Mary as a model of faith and devotion. Her example teaches us how to live with trust and dedication in our own lives.
We will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption at Mass on Thursday 15 August at 9:15am.
Unfortunately, our play equipment will be closed for an extended period of time.
This decision follows recent safety inspections, which revealed that while the equipment was compliant when it was originally installed, some specific parts of the equipment and the soft fall underneath no longer meet current safety standards.
The Diocesan property team is actively working on a long-term solution for the playground. Due to the scope of the work involved, this process is anticipated to be lengthy.
In the meantime, we are exploring positive alternatives to keep the children engaged and active during break times. We will keep you updated on our progress and any new developments.
Sydney Kings Visit - Friday 23 August
We are excited to welcome players from the Sydney Kings to Corpus Christi during Week 4 to meet students and run a short basketball clinic. The Kings are touring regional areas to support the growth of basketball in the Hunter region.
Newcastle Council Water Safety Presentation - Friday 23 August
We will also have a visit from local lifeguards next Friday to deliver key messages about safety and drowning prevention. The program seeks to interactively educate children about water safety and covers water safety at the beach, at the pool and around open bodies of water such as rivers, lakes and dams.

Religious Literacy -What is it, Does my child need it?
Corpus Christi is proud to offer all students learning opportunities that support their academic, social, emotional and spiritual growth.
There are many day to day experiences for students that create opportunities for faith, culture and life to connect, to be explored and nutured.
One way our school aims to achieve this, is through developing students' Religious Literacy.
Religious literacy is defined as entailing the ability to discern, explore and analyse the fundamental intersections of religion and social, and cultural life through multiple perspectives.
Through our Religious Education lessons, our well-being and social/emotional programs, our prayer and worship, through our social justice initiatives and in our personal interactions, CCW aims to nurture students' Religious Literacy.
Staff have undertaken professional learning and reflection in 2024 to unpack our shared vision and understanding of Religious Literacy and its impact on the students in our care.
We encourage you to take some time to read the belief statements below, which CCW staff have collaboratively created and jointly share as the vision for supporting the Religious Literacy of each child.
The assessment of Catholic Religious Literacy takes place annually across all schools in the diocese. The assessment is designed and set by the diocese.
It focuses on students’ knowledge and understanding of key concepts that are addressed in the Religious Education program, the achievement of the outcomes set out in the diocesan Religion syllabus, and the ability of students to communicate this knowledge and understanding about the Catholic tradition.
The data produced from this assessment is designed to give RE teachers meaningful feedback about the students’ learning and to assist in developing improved learning experiences for students.
Public Speaking 2024
This year, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in Public Speaking in their classrooms, on their stage, and with our North Region Schools. Students learned how to share their ideas with an audience and the importance of developing their speaking skills.
This year we congratulate the following students for representing their stage in the school finals:
Early Stage 1: Basil , Adelaide , Frankie , Iris , Olivia
Stage 1: Aubrey , Mahalia , Owen , Otis , Lucy , Airlie , Matilda , Charlie
Stage 2: Evelyn , Neve , Aisha , Cara , Freddie , Verity (absent on the day), Ruby ,
Stage 3: Lucy , Sophie , Isabelle , Inez , Benjamin , Adam Storey, Lachlan , Saxon
We especially congratulate Basil, Adelaide, Airlie, Lucy, Evelynn, Ruby, Benjamin and Inez for representing Corpus Christi at the North Regional Public Speaking Competition at St Brigid’s Raymond Terrace on Wednesday 21st August and their families for their support in their attendance.
This term, students in Year 1 -6 set off along the Learning Highway – the one that we stay on for life if we know how to attend and focus, how to plan and organise our time and resources, and how to be resilient and persist when the learning becomes difficult or repetitive.
Learning to learn, means understanding and practising the attitudes and behaviours that support higher level processing and that means starting with developing the inside skills that help a child to self-regulate and to choose positive and helpful ways to stay calm and optimistic despite challenges. For every child, knowing how they learn best – their patterns of motivation and procrastination and how to develop a Growth Mindset matter to later learning success.
The Executive Functioning skills of avoiding distractions, approaching a task with success in mind and applying strategies that increase learning persistence, confidence and resilience are the focus of our Term 3 Highway Heroes lessons.
Recently, students have been learning about tricks to 'Getting Things Done'.Your child has to do and remember a lot in a school day; lessons to learn, rules to follow,
friends to make, friendship issues to sort out, new teachers, different demands... And
then there are after school commitments, chores, homework… Creating systems for
success that help your child to Approach tasks confidently - with persistence and using
their Supa Thinking - makes sense in their busy lives – and yours too.
Having an Approach is a successful step towards Getting Things Done. Classes have been discussing the TRIPLE A's for GETTING THINGS DONE.
Take some time at home to talk with your child about how you approach a task, even when you don't feel like doing it.
Resilience is one of those skills that all kids need and should have. It refers to their ability to cope and adapt in situations when confronted with challenges such as adversity, trauma, tragedy, or even stress. It is essential to their mental health and wellbeing as part of their journey to adulthood. It is a skill that can be learned from an early age through the support of an adult role model.
However, being resilient does not mean your child won't experience any difficulties, but it will better equip them to manage those situations.
Over-protective parenting can be viewed as being unhelpful towards the building of resilience. Although this may be a natural instinct, potentially experiencing failure is all part of the process. Encouraging children to take healthy risks will help them trust their capacity to deal with uncomfortable situations and increase their capacity for courage.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will gain an understanding of how to support their child’s brave behaviour to help them adapt and build resilience.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
