Hi Everyone,
Faith in Focus
Last week, we reflected on the key message of National Child Protection Week. In the Bible, Jesus emphasised the importance of caring for and protecting children. He said, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me” (Mark 9:36-37). This message highlights the central role that children should play in our lives, emphasising our duty to safeguard their well-being.
This year's theme was: “Every Conversation Matters.”
Last week, the students worked with on our 'Decorate your Space' school banner to reflect on important messages they can give to each other in conversations.... so that a brief comment or quick chat can have the power to encourage and support their peers.
We pray today that children, both here and throughout the world, will be offered quality time for meaningful conversations with their parents, teachers, and other adults in their lives.
Recently, we surveyed the parent community to gather feedback on proposed changes to the winter uniform. Following the collection of 106 responses, we can share that 60% of the survey responses were in favour of making the school tie optional. The survey results were presented to the P&F meeting last night, and the P&F committee endorsed the modification.
What This Means: Starting from May 2025, students can wear the winter uniform with or without a tie. We will transition to a long-sleeve shirt featuring the school emblem over the next three years to ensure the winter uniform maintains the school's identity. This update will provide greater flexibility and comfort for our students while preserving our school's identity in the winter uniform.
For students who wish to continue wearing the tie, the uniform shop has sourced new ties for purchase in 2025 with a zip function that is preferable to the current elastic tie.
The P&F have endorsed a decision to have a collection of ties available for winter school photos and formal school events if students require them to borrow.
We appreciate your continued support and involvement in our school community.

Five students from Year 5 have been working on projects for the Diocesan Virtual Academy, a Gifted and Talented Initiative. Casey, Chase and Indiana commenced projects at the beginning of the year, with Inez and Isabelle joining this term.
The most recent learning experience was taking part in the Digital Tools Day.
On Thursday 5th September our Year 5 Virtual Academy Students participated in a Digital Tools Day. The purpose of this day is to expose students to various software applications and tools they might not ordinarily have the chance to learn. These skills can then be applied to their problem-based research tasks, or other classroom tasks such as innovative presentations.
Chase learnt coding with Python! Super effort! Inez learnt how to present in a virtual 360 way using a Digital Space Creation application, Casey learnt how to code a game using Scratch junior and Indi and Isabelle learnt how to create engaging videos and animations using Adobe Express.
It was very exciting to see the students engaged and learning at their own pace using their skills of persistence, organisation and independence. Congratulations!
Prime Ministers Spelling Bee
This year, 32 students from our primary spelling groups participated in the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee.
This Spelling Bee is online, and students have 25 seconds to listen to it and type a selection of challenging words. This experience enhanced students' vocabulary and helped them challenge their spelling skills. All students who participated will receive a certificate.
Congratulations to the following students who were their class champions!
Year 4: Verity
Year 5: Casey
Year 6: Phoebe
Also, a special round of applause for Indiana Batten in Year 5, who emerged as our School Champion! Indiana's outstanding performance earned her a spot in the State round.
We are excited to have Sami Bayly, our local author and illustrator, visit us this term. Sami will be presenting interactive workshops to all K-6 classes on Thursday 26 September.
Sami is a 28 year old author and illustrator who is currently based in Newcastle, NSW. She loves all things weird and wonderful and enjoys painting realistic flora and fauna.
After studying a bachelor of Natural History Illustration at The University of Newcastle, she has published 5 books. 3 of which are part of The Illustrated Encyclopaedia series: The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Ugly Animals, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Dangerous Animals and The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Peculiar Pairs in Nature.
Her latest 2 books however, are in a newly released series about animal evolution stories. They are, How We Came To Be - Surprising Sea Creatures and How We Came To Be - Creatures of Camouflage and Mimicry, all published by Lothian/Hachette Australia.
Thank You for the wonderful support given to Our Grandparents Day and Book Week celebrations!
A big thank you goes out to all students, parents, friends, and staff who attended our 2024 Book Fair. Thanks to the tremendous support, we sold over $5,000 worth of books! This translates into over $1500.00 worth of brand-new books going back into our school library. We are also very grateful for the many donations we received!
Our Character parade was a lot of fun and displayed the many talents of our school community with the variety of creative costumes! The students and staff all looked amazing! Thank you to all who took part in dressing up and well done to all the family members who created the costumes!
The Uniform Shop is open Fridays 8:30am-9:30am
