Newsletter Week 10 Term 2 2024
Hi Everyone,
We came together this week to celebrate NAIDOC Week taking place in the holiday break. The theme this year is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak (Black), Loud and Proud!
NAIDOC Week plays a pivotal role in the education of primary school students in Australia. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture, history, and spirituality. NAIDOC Week serves as a platform to explore and understand the similarities and differences in spiritual beliefs. It fosters discussions on respect, community, and land stewardship, aligning with Jesus' teachings of love, compassion, and inclusivity.
This week, our students participated in activities centred on storytelling, art, and music and games inspired by Indigenous traditions; students had the opportunity connect with the spiritual values celebrated during NAIDOC Week while appreciating the diverse spiritual landscape of their country.
We celebrate NAIDOC week with empathy, awareness, and a willingness to seek to understand Indigenous perspectives.
Classroom Refurbishment
We have exciting news to share as we approach the upcoming school holidays! Thanks to our grant application to the Diocese, following the refurbishment of our Year 2 classroom, Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 will undergo significant refurbishments. These improvements will not only modernize our facilities but also create more conducive spaces for teaching and learning.
While we are excitedabout this opportunity, I want to be transparent about the potential impact on the start of the new school term. Since the refurbishment will occur throughout the holidays, there may be some residual disruption during the first week of school. We are taking every measure to minimize any inconvenience and ensure a smooth transition for students and staff.
We look forward to welcoming you back after the holidays and sharing these exciting updates with you firsthand. Wishing you and your families a restful and enjoyable break.

CCW Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal; Turning Compassion into Action
Thank you to students and families for the generous way you are supporting our 2024 Winter Appeal. Tim O'Brien from our local St Vincent De Paul chapter has already collected the toiletry donations. Your support of the Vinnies Winter Appeal will make a difference in the lives of people experiencing financial hardship this winter.
A big thank you to our Mini Vinnies Student Team for taking time out of their own lunch and recess to prepare posters and advertising for the Appeal. They also made class presentations to raise awareness about the Winter Appeal.
Celebrating St Dominic Feast Day In Term 3
Next Term, Corpus Christi will celebrate the Feast of St Dominic. As a community, we celebrate Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican order. St Dominic embraced a life of simplicity and showed thoughtfulness, understanding, and love to all people he encountered.
The history of school is steeped in Dominican charism and the work of the Dominican sisters. Our history is grounded in Truth, Justice, Service, Prayer, Community, Learning and opportunities for every person in our school to succeed.
For Dominic, love for people was part of his love for God.
In the same way, 800 years after St Dominic lived, we strive to build a community where everyone belongs, everyone is understood, and everyone is loved.
We will celebrate St Dominic with a whole school mass on Friday 2nd August at 9:15a.m in the church.
*All parents and families are welcome to join us for Mass.
Students will return to school and participate in The Dominican Olympics! This will involve fun, tabloid games outside lead by our Year 6 students. Students will also engage in classroom lessons on our Dominican Pillars. Normal school uniform to be worn.

We are excited to announce that we will be celebrating Book Week with a special parade for the first time in several years! The theme for this year's parade is "Reading is Magic," where students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book characters. While dressing up is optional, we believe it adds to the fun and spirit of the event, students have the option to get creative with their costumes using items from home and recycled materials.
Here’s what you can expect:
-
Book Parade: Students are invited to dress up as their favorite book characters to participate in our parade at the start of the day.
-
Book Fair: Our Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the library. There will be many books on display for order. Classes/Families will have an allocated time to attend, further information published closer to the day.
-
Activities with Grandparents: Following the parade, we will have various activities planned within class groups for grandparents, parents and visitors to participate in.
As part of our attendance procedures, we have recently reviewed attendance records for all students and will be sending letters to parents to share students' current attendance rates. Attendance plays a crucial role in academic achievement and overall school experience, and we wanted to share some important insights with you.
In preparing this communication, we review the circumstances for all students with an attendance rate below 90%. We understand that some students may have faced challenges such as extended illness, which can significantly impact their attendance.
It's important to emphasise that regular school attendance directly correlates with your child's academic progress and social development.
By maximising attendance, we aim to create a supportive learning environment where every student can learn. Thank you for your support.
Tomorrow is our author visit. Sami Bayly, our local author and illustrator, visit us this term. Sami will be presenting interactive workshops to all K-6 classes tomorrow.
We can't wait to learn from Sami.
The Uniform Shop will be closed this week and reopen Friday 26 July.
