Newsletter Week 8 Term 2 2024
Hi Everyone,
It's been a busy fortnight at Corpus Christi! We are looking forward to the Disco tomorrow evening!
We will send further reminders via Compass tomorrow. Thanks to the P&F for providing the Disco entertainment!
Classroom Makeover
Exciting news! Our Year 2 classroom underwent a rapid transformation last week. This was part of our ongoing collaboration with the Diocesan Property team to refurbish all seven classrooms. The Year 2 classroom served as a successful test case, demonstrating how a room can be revamped in a short span of time. We're proud to share that the new paint, wall coverings (Autex), and carpet (tiles) were all installed in just over four days. Check out the pictures on our Facebook page.
I would like to extend my appreciation to Mrs Castles, Miss Connolly, and our Year 2 students for their remarkable flexibility and resilience during the classroom makeover. Their ability to continue their learning program amidst the changes is truly commendable.
Hall Refurbishment
The hall is another project in development with the Property Team. We are working to freshen up the interior, install AV equipment, and improve acoustics and accessibility to the hall from the Bridge Street entrance. We will keep you updated as work commences. This may significantly impact our access to the hall from Term 4. We will consider changes to assemblies, etc., as the project commences.

Introducing the Corpus Christi Dominican Detectives
A new initiative at Corpus Christi has commenced. We are excited to introduce the Dominican Detectives. Each fortnight, students from our Mini Vinnies Team will take turns to be Domincan Detectives.
Our Mini Vinnies Team is for all students from Year 3 to 6 who wish to join to act for social change and justice. This year we have over 40 students in Mini Vinnies!
The role of a Dominican Detective is to be on the look out for our fortnights Veritas Value. The Dominican Detectives are tasked with spotting evidence of classes, groups, or individuals displaying our schools Veritas Values with a mission to report back to the school at our Friday assembly via a video presentation.
Corpus Christi has a strong connection to it's Dominican Charism. The Dominican Sisters commeneced Catholic education in Waratah in 1907, with our Corpus Christi school opening in 1935. The foundational pillars of the Dominican Charism are LEARNING, PRAYER, SERVICE and COMMUNITY.
Vinnies Winter Appeal
Our Corpus Christi Vinnies Winter Appeal is underway! Your generous support can provide immediate assistance to a family or individual in our local community.
Our Mini Vinnies are busy spreading the message of social justice and raising awareness of people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
Our Mini Vinnies follow the SEE, JUDGE, ACT process for bringing about social change. At Corpus Christi, we encourage all students to take notice of someone in need, reflect, think and pray on the need, and then put compassion into action.
Just as Mary Mackillop said " NEVER SEE A NEED WITHOUT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT".
Our Vinnies Winter Appeal will take place next Friday with a donation opportunity and Pyjama Day. Please see the details below.
Mini Vinnies Visit St Martin De Porres Aged Care Home
We are very excited to recommence our Mini Vinnies visits to the Calvary St Martin De Porre Aged Care Home our neighbours across the street.
Our first group of Mini Vinnies Team members embarked on a walk to the home last week, where they spent quality time with the residents. The students' display of respect, generosity, compassion, and active listening was commendable, setting a high standard for future visits.
During the visit, students played games, chatted and shared some classroom learning with the residents. It was heartwarming to witness the positive difference these students made. We look forward to many more visits to the home with all of our Mini Vinnies Members throughout the rest of the year.
As young people learn to navigate through various aspects of their life, they may face disappointment due to unfulfilled expectations, shattered dreams, or unexpected setbacks. Yet, with the appropriate tools, strategies, and a positive mindset, young people can learn to cope with disappointment and use it as an opportunity for personal growth and success.
Disappointment can be a tricky emotion to deal with at any age. It is a normal part of growing up. However, children sometimes need reminding that they have a choice in how they respond to disappointment and their response will determine the impact it has on their future happiness. Overall, disappointment is a healthy and positive emotion and plays an integral part in a child’s emotional, intellectual and social development.
Helping young people manage their disappointment is important in order to avoid stronger emotions such as anxiety and depression. Although a parent’s first reaction may be to fix the problem, it is better to encourage your child to find the words to express how they feel.
In this Special Report, parents and caregivers are provided with strategies on how to help their child process disappointment and look at the problem objectively.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
Take some time to watch the video link below for parental tips in how to help your child deal with disappointment.
