Corpus Christi has a multi faceded approach to student wellbeing. We use Positive Behaviour for Learning supports for student behaviour, emotional and social development. The PBL framework strives to provide children and families with a happy and safe culture at school, where students are valued, feel safe and learning is supported.
Along with the newly introduced social and emotional program "Highway Heros", Corpus Christi has introduced a new Positive Behaviour Award named 'Veritas Values'. (Our Gotcha Rewards system will still continue as it has in the past, supporting students positive behaviour each and every day.)
The word Veritas, is our school motto, meaning TRUTH. It's connection to the Gospel Message and the mission of Jesus is witnessed in many places around our school. It is witnessed in the big and small ways our community treats eachother with love and care, and in the way we build a supportive community through inclusion, compassion, service and understanding.
Throughout each week, students will be unpacking and putting into practice one particular focus from our school rules and expectations matrix. This is not to say that students only follow one rule per week, but that teachers take the time to explicitly teach each focus of our positive behaviour matrix, so the expectations are clear and students have times to ask questions and to discuss what each expectation really looks likes, sounds like and feels like.
Our new Veritas Values Award will be awarded to students as part of our fortnightly awards assembly based on the focus for the fortnight. You can find the Veritas Value focus for each fortnight on the WHATS ON COMPASS alert that is sent each Sunday.
This Wednesday(21/2) at the information night and bbq there will be an opportunity to meet the teachers ask more general questions which apply to all the students in the class.
It is important that all families attend these goal setting meetings. To book a meeting go to the 'Conferences' section on Compass. If you having trouble booking a meeting, please contact the school.
Additionally, I would like to acknowledge our staff who are graciously working after hours so these events can happen for the benefit of our families.
Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN in over two weeks commencing on the 13th of March. The format is the same as last year. All students participate in 4 assessments, spread over several days. All the assessments are computer based, except Year 3 writing which is done with pencil and paper. If a student is absent we have several days at the end of the two week window to 'catch-up'.
Classes will do some preparation for the assessments, however the purpose of this preparation is to make students feel more comfortable with the format and relieve any possible anxieties. It is a once off test and while is gives a good big picture overview to the school, dioceses and teachers, NAPLAN does not directly influence the teachers goals or grades for their students.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN please contact the school.

Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means that the children are growing up!
However, for many it may also be a very anxious and stressful time for both parents and children. Transitioning is an ongoing process. It can continue long after students have entered their new environment and may encounter difficulties at a number of different stages. These stressors may appear as anxiety and frustration and result in negative or disruptive behaviours. Such behaviours can become problematic making the transitioning process even more difficult for children and parents.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn practical strategies to assist your child during the transition process and reduce stress and anxiety levels.

Isaiah in Year 5 has made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating his hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition. There is a donation link below if you would like to support Isaiah.

Wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.
By making a donation to Variety - the Children's Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need.
Isaiah is keen to cut have his hair cut at school - details to come!
