Newsletter Week 8 Term 1 2024
Hi Everyone,
Today, we held our Open Day for 2025 Kindergarten Families. It's always strange to think that just as we settle into Term 1, we are already thinking about our new Kindergarten cohort for 2025. Days like this are a source of great pride and joy. I love welcoming new families into our community, and today, our Year 6 students were front and centre, showing our new families around the school.
Our enrolment period is open until May. If you know of any families wanting to enrol for 2025, please let them know to contact the office.
Harmony Day
The exciting thing about working in a school is that something is always happening! This week, we also celebrate Harmony Day. We have further shared some information regarding our celebrations and out-of-uniform in the newsletter. At Corpus Christi, our students have family connections to over fifteen countries, languages and cultures. Some countries and cultures represented are the First Nations peoples of Australia, the Torres Strait Islands and New Zealand. As well as the Philippines. India, Singapore, Lithuania, Samoa, Taiwan, Slovenia, Albania, the United States of America, Ireland, Scotland, Canada and Germany.
Harmony Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about each other's families, cultures, languages and traditions and value the diversity present in our community.
Holy Week and the Easter Season
As Catholics, we are moving into one of the most important phases of the Liturgical year. Holy Week is the final week of Lent, starting on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter. During Holy Week, we are called to reflect and participate in the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Passion was the final period of Christ's life in Jerusalem, which spans from when He arrived in Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) to when He was crucified (Good Friday). We reflect on Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday.
We teach children about these moments in Jesus's life, focusing on his sacrifice, humility, and unconditional love. As Catholics, we live in hope, and with God's mercy and love, we can overcome anything life throws at us.
Please join us during our Holy Week and Resurrection Liturgies. See the details below.
Wishing you all a happy and Holy Easter for next week,
Katie

A big thank you to all students and families for the generous way you supported our social justice initiative; Project Compassion. All money raised will go directly to CARITAS Australia; a Catholic organisation that works in some of the poorest communities in the world.
Our school Mini Vinnies team did a great job this term of raising awareness of social justice and supporting the fundraiser. Year 1 clearly had the longest class coin line on the day, but all classes are commended for their support of social justice.
Parish Kinder Welcome Mass
As we move closer to Holy Week, Christians around the world are preparing to walk with Jesus on the journey to become closer and closer to God. We prepare to grow deeper and deeper in the new life God offers us. Holy Week is considered the most sacred week in the liturgical calendar for Christians around the world.
We are offered the opportunity to renew our commitment to “go out”, encounter others, and bring the joy of our faith and love to others.
Corpus Christi will reflect on the events of Holy Week and their meaning for all Christians
Please join us as we celebrate and pray as a community.

Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. In schools, we celebrate inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, from the traditional owners of the land to those who have come from many countries around the world. Harmony Day coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is ‘EVERYONE BELONGS’. It is a day of cultural respect for all. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong to this nation and enrich it.
This year, we will be celebrating a Harmony Day event on Friday 22nd March. Students will be able to wear orange clothing or accessories which is the colour associated with Harmony Day. There will be class activities including an ENERGETIC and engaging Bollywood Infusion session!
Understanding parental controls to safeguard
your child
This 30-minute webinar provides an overview of different types of parental controls and how to set them on smart devices and computers, in apps and on gaming platforms for your child’s safety.
A huge thank you to our families that supported the P&F Bunnings BBQ last Saturday at Bunnings Kotara.
We have several opportunities for parent volunteers in the coming weeks.
In order to volunteer in a Diocesan school, all volunteers are required to complete Volunteer Registration process and be cleared throught the Human Resources department. You can find further information and commence the registration process through this link:
https://www.mn.catholic.org.au/people/volunteer/
Part of the process will include a National Police Check generated from the Diocesan office, we can assist in the office with scanning of documents etc.
I encourage all parents and carers to register as a volunteer to ensure that you have clearance to participate when an event takes place.
Please contact our school office if you have any questions admin@waratah.catholic.edu.au
